28/1/2011

In today's lesson we had to analyse two university magazine covers - two completly different magazine covers.
The first university magazine cover is called "QUAD" this magazine is an educational purpose magazine and has been published by Queen Mary, university of london. It seems to look like a formal magazine that is aimed towards graduates, on the front cover of this magazine it includes images showing past graduates and how successful they have become. It also has a formal layout which makes the front cover look professional and smart. I think this magazine cover is appealing for people with high class and who aim to do well in life.

The second magazine cover we looked at was called "NEWSMAN" this magazine was also for an educational purpose, it has been published by birmingham university. It is the complete opposite to the magazine we had to analyse before, although this had a positive outcome as we were able to compare and see the differences between a 'formal' and 'informal' magazine.
The newman university of birmingham magazine was also laid out effectively, although it had no alignment. I found this magazine front cover was just to the point, and more clear to understand what it was for. It also included features to suggest the university was more laid back and informal than the magazine we looked at before.

Here is images of my work, showing that I analysed the magazine covers and showing the features I have been able to find :

18/01/2011

On the 18th of january in our lesson we firstly had to have a tutorial on photoshop as most of the class was unaware how to use it, We had to have a tutorial as we will be developing our media pieces on photoshop to make them look professional and unique.
We then had to create a nature magazine front cover for our first task, we then had to make adaptions to it to make it look professional and look like an actual magazine cover.
First of all I got an image relating to nature off of google images, I then manipulated it to make it look brighter, I also then added the 'spatter' technique to my image to make it more like a painted image which may attract viewers by looking unique and a nice photo to look at.
I also added text to my magazine to make it look like a front page magazine cover, this would then explain to viewers that it was actually a magazine and a specific type - nature.
I then added the essentials to a magazine cover, such as an advert relating to the magazine and a barcode at the bottom.

First blog

In today's lesson we learnt how to create our own blog so we was able to keep a record of our work.
We also found that we will be using several different programmes to make our coursework sucessful, such as photoshop.
We also learnt that we will have to create our own music magazine cover for our coursework and take original photos by ourselves for us to do this.
